What tutoring services does Horton Test Prep offer?

Horton Test Prep helps students nationwide raise their ACT, SAT and CLT scores through live group coaching and private virtual tutoring. We also offer our digital course Secrets to Earning Scholarships, which teaches students how to find scholarships, build strong applications and reduce college costs. In addition, we provide academic tutoring in most subjects for students in grades 7–12.

Who teaches the classes?

Test prep instruction is led by Leia LeMaster Horton, M.Ed., who has been an educator for twenty-five years and a test prep professional and scholarship expert for more than ten. Academic tutoring is provided by our team of experienced teachers, each of whom has over ten years of expertise in their subject areas.

When should students begin test prep?

We recommend starting during the spring semester of tenth grade and aiming to reach the student’s highest score by October of junior year. This timing aligns with major scholarship opportunities that begin opening in the fall and winter of junior year.

How long does the test prep process typically take?

The industry standard is five months. Our full training progression consists of ten practice tests and twenty coaching sessions. Students who train once per week complete the program in twenty weeks, while students training twice per week can complete it in approximately ten weeks.

How is your program different from other test prep services?

Our approach emphasizes both skill mastery and strategy. Instead of only reviewing missed questions, we coach students through every problem. Many students get answers right by guessing or by using an inefficient, time-consuming method. By walking through each question, we ensure they truly understand the skill behind the problem and know the fastest, most reliable strategy to use on test day. This level of training builds accuracy, speed and confidence. We also use a digital platform that mirrors the official digital exams, so students practice in the same format they will see on test day.

How much can a student improve?

Results vary depending on consistency, practice and starting point. However, many students experience significant score increases when they attend sessions regularly and follow the recommended practice plan.
Leia has helped multiple students earn perfect scores and many more achieve large improvements. We frequently see increases of 250 points or more, and in some cases 500+ points, because consistent training builds skill fluency. Do you work with all score levels?

Yes. We work with students who are just beginning their test prep journey as well as those who are already strong test takers. Lower-scoring students build foundational skills and confidence, while higher-scoring students refine strategy, timing and precision to reach competitive score ranges and scholarship levels.

Do you offer one-on-one tutoring?

Yes. Our program includes both group instruction and optional one-on-one follow-up sessions to provide targeted guidance and individualized support where needed.

It gives guidance on how to improve, but it does not write or rewrite any part of the essay. The student remains the sole author.
